Ant-Man Review: A Good, Humorous, Superhero Movie (No Spoilers)

When I saw the trailer for The Ant-Man Movie, I knew I had to see it. It was a Marvel movie and Marvel has only disappointed me once with their movies…*coughs* Thor: Into the Darkness *coughs*.  The problem with going to see a movie that JUST comes out is you typically have a hard time choosing a good seat when your only option are the ones in the front. You know those seats that you only sit in when there’s absolutely, positively NO OTHER OPTION at the movie theater. (My neck still hurts from when I had to look upwards at a giant IMAX screen when I went to see Jurassic World. It was totally worth it though.)

The plot (from Wikipedia): Forced out of his own company by former protégé Darren Cross, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) recruits the talents of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), a master thief just released from prison. Lang becomes Ant-Man, trained by Pym and armed with a suit that allows him to shrink in size, possess superhuman strength and control an army of ants. The miniature hero must use his new skills to prevent Cross, also known as Yellowjacket, from perfecting the same technology and using it as a weapon for evil.

Review: Ant-Man has your typical superhero plot, no big plot twist or surprises, but it was enjoyable to watch. There were plenty of funny scenes as well as some serious Father and Daughter bonding scenes. (By some father and daughter bonding scenes I mean a lot of Father and Bonding scenes.)The movie also had a variety of characters including a sneak peak at the “New Adventures”.   There was plenty of action and, you guessed it, ants. I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand crawling little creatures.  The very thought of them makes me uneasy. Why did I go see Ant-Man when the name heavily implied there would be ants? Because it’s a Marvel Movie, duh. Ant-Man made ants look like your best friends. After watching the movie, I too, wanted my own pack of ants to control around.

The graphics were surprisingly good which made it easy for me to watch the movie without pointing out all the scenes that made the use of green screens visible. With that said, I wouldn’t recommend going to see the movie in I-MAX or even 3D, because it just isn’t worth it. Ten minutes in the film and I forgot I was watching it in 3D.

Verdict: 7 Kawaii Ants

Overall the film was enjoyable to watch, it made me laugh and it made me cry. If you’re feeling bored and don’t know what to do, I would highly recommend you go see Jurassic World if you haven’t already. If you have seen Jurassic World, then you should go see Ant-Man. Ant-Man isn’t a "must see" so if you end up not watching it you’re not missing out on too much.
